International trade used to be discussed mainly in terms of ships, factories and physical goods. That picture is incomplete. Services delivered online, software, cloud activity, digital consulting, creative work and other cross-border services are becoming a larger part of how economies connect.

The global supply chain is no longer being designed around the simple idea of finding the cheapest supplier and moving goods through the shortest route. Companies are increasingly weighing resilience, political risk, shipping capacity, energy costs, digital infrastructure and access to alternative suppliers.
